So I'm still trying to get my character un-stolen by goldfarmers. Has *anyone* succeeded in having a hacked account returned to them?

Procedure goes like this:

1). Go to Blizzard's 'one-stop shop' account recovery page at https://us.battle.net/account/support/secure-computer.html
2). Be told an error has occurred.
3). Try getting hold of a staffer at Battle.net via their account recovery page at https://us.battle.net/account/support/account-recovery.html
4). Begin account recovery.
5). Enter email address and name.
6). Choose your world region (Southeast Asia and ANZ, in my case.)
7). Click on their 'highly recommended webform'.
8). Be told that Asia and ANZ doesn't have a webform.
9). Be directed to North America's webform.
10). Be asked to choose your country (Australia).
11). Be taken back to step 4.
12). Become enraged.
13). Click back to 'highly recommended webform' recommendation page. Note hours of operation for Australian wing. Note lack of phone numbers. Note US email address.
14). Wind up just emailing the motherfuckers like you would have done at step 1.
15). Get no reply.

Also, there's no good reason for me doing this other than a). I resent having my stuff nicked and b). I met someone who plays. I can't believe I've been clean for almost three years and am once again thinking about how pretty Azeroth was. God dammit. Still, the novel will be done in a few days. Maybe I've earned some NONONONONONONONONONONONO...

JAMES: How was your day?

ME: Really good, actually. Slept in a little, had a picnic in the park, cool change roared in, had a great time with Zofia, caught a late screening of True Grit, ran into some friends. Brilliant, actually.

JAMES: I spent mine inside a steel cage in the back of a truck in forty degree heat. All the water in my body's evaporated and I've built up a static charge like I've been in a tumble dryer.

This, to me, is tears-to-the-eyes beautiful.

Pretty sure it's all footage from the doco version of the book The World Without Us, which is fantastic and one of the better things I've read in the last five years.

I have an odd request. I need to get a copy of an old episode of Law & Order: SVU from Season 5, which makes it about 7 years old. I managed to track down a torrent of that episode. finally, and it's a Spanish dub with no subtitles.

Does anyone here either have a copy on DVD they'd be OK with loaning me, or could point me to someplace online where I might find it?

Specifically I'm after Season Five, Episode 16 (Home).

Any help very much appreciated.

EDIT: Problem solved. Thanks very much folks!

Silently, billions of bees are dying off and our entire food chain is in danger. Bees don't just make honey, they are a giant, humble workforce, pollinating 90% of the plants we grow.

Multiple scientific studies blame one group of toxic pesticides for their rapid demise, and bee populations are recovering in countries where these products have been banned. But powerful chemical companies are lobbying hard to keep selling these poisons. Our best chance to save bees now is to push the US and EU to join the ban -- their action is critical and will have a ripple effect on the rest of the world.

We have no time to lose -- the debate is raging about what to do. This is not just about saving bees, this is about survival. Let’s build a giant global buzz calling for the EU and US to outlaw these killer chemicals and save our bees and our food. Sign the emergency petition now, and send it on to everyone and we’ll deliver it to key decision makers:

https://secure.avaaz.org/en/save_the_bees/?vl

Bees are vital to life on earth -- every year pollinating plants and crops with an estimated $40bn value, over one third of the food supply in many countries. Without immediate action to save bees many of our favourite fruits, vegetables, and nuts could vanish from our shelves.

Recent years have seen a steep and disturbing global decline in bee populations -- some bee species are already extinct and last week we learned that some US species are at just 4% of their previous numbers. Scientists have been scrambling for answers. Some studies claim the decline may be due to a combination of factors including disease, habitat loss and toxic chemicals. But increasingly independent research has produced strong evidence blaming neonicotinoid pesticides. France, Italy, Slovenia and even Germany, where the main manufacturer Bayer is based, have banned one of these bee killers. But, Bayer continues to export its poison across the world

This issue is now coming to the boil as major new studies have confirmed the scale of this problem. If we can get European and US decision-makers to take action, others will follow. It won’t be easy. A leaked document shows that the US Environmental Protection Agency knew about the pesticide’s dangers, but ignored them. The document says Bayer’s "highly toxic" product is a "major risk concern to non target insects [honey bees]".

We need to make our voices heard to counter Bayer’s very strong influence on policy makers and scientists in both the US and the EU where they fund the studies and sit on policy bodies. The real experts -- the beekeepers and farmers -- want these deadly pesticides prohibited until and unless we have solid, independent studies that show they are safe. Let's support them now. Sign the petition below, then forward this email:

https://secure.avaaz.org/en/save_the_bees/?vl

We can no longer leave our delicate food chain in the hands of research run by the chemical companies and the regulators that are in their pockets. Banning this pesticide will move us closer to a world safe for ourselves and the other species we care about and depend on.

With hope,

Alex, Alice, Iain, David and all at Avaaz

- Nicholas and the Chronoporter soon to be available in China and Taiwan in them there languages.

- Novel almost done. Retained the services of related professionals for fact-checking.

- Initial concept for ghost story for upcoming anthology is good but falls outside the readership age. Got three more sketched out.

- Word so far is that Penguin will get me in for meetings in 3-4 weeks provided costings for their 6-book arc doesn't come back with a big fat negative. Touch wood.

- The Age should finally be printing that article on Olde Hansa (Tallinn, Estonia) around the end of the month. Chasing them for an actual date.

- Got accepted to attend the Transmedia Conference in Melbourne. Talks and workshops from names in the film and visual media industries. Hopefully a good chance to network and make a few connections.

Just saw footage of the area I used to live in. I was on Petrie Terrace, near the CBD, equidistant between Suncorp Stadium and the Fourex Brewery. People are taking dinghies through the gates of the latter and boating laps around the former. So, so weird.

Also the water's got human effluent in it, isn't moving, the sun's coming out and the water's stagnating. Mosquitoes and disease are going to be a problem. I'm told by family living in FNQ that Listerine is the best mosquito repellent there is. Just rub it on like regular repellent.

EDIT: a friend also pointed out that vitamin B tabs, taken at about 5pm, change the scent of blood so that one effectively becomes 'invisible' to mozzies. I can't vouch for that, but they ain't crazy, so give it a shot.

Skip that. Our agents field-tested the theory in Guatemala. (But y'know, if it were me facing malaria and I had the pills, I'd take em anyway. Worst that happens is you get vitaminised, right?)

EDIT (via valkyriekaren): if you have any bruises or grazes, cover them up with plasters or gauze. Otherwise the broken blood vessels near the skin will attract the bitey little bastards like crazy.

Apparently Oxley's restaurant snapped in half and is floating down the river. Suncorp Stadium is burning. Milton Road has a lake in it. And the levels haven't even peaked yet.

Bored To Death is a brilliant little TV series written by Jonathan Ames, about Jonathan Ames as an amateur private detective (played by Jason Schwartzman). It also stars Zach Galifianakis and Ted Danson. I get the feeling that if you like stuff by Wes Anderson you'd probably dig this.

No idea if it's hit cable in Australia. I only checked it because Marc Maron was going on about it.

Swell. Something weird's happening with my eyes. Having trouble focusing on letters. Almost like my eyes can't scan words... or the letters are mashing together... or words to the right of my central vision actually seem to vanish. Hopefully not the beginning of something that'll require glasses. Anyone got any experience of stuff like this?
