What does that mean? We are better when we create a world for "our children"?

To be completely reductive, I thought of it more along the lines of "Clean up after yourself", or "Contribute."

To me, this saying is about having the wisdom and foresight to selflessly create something good that others will benefit from -- even if you don't expect a short-term benefit, or to even be around for the payoff.
It's also about trust and letting-go. After you kick-of something on that timeline, you've gotta let others tend for it.

It's the antithesis to modern politics, especially the neocon flavour.
