So [livejournal.com profile] morgan303's away for a bit, and it's the first time I've really been in this place without her.  So it's just me and the cats.  The orange one's been curled up since she left and Small seems convinced she's going to come through the door at any minute.  I figured I'd settle in with a glass of wine and a vid.   What'd I wind up getting?

Babel.

That was like nine hours waiting outside an ER compressed into two.*

Sweetie, when we get to Morocco, I'm taking the window seat.

Thank Christ I've also got Zatoichi.

*: It's a well-made film, but Jesus.  If you've ever seen a few episodes of Peep Show, you know the kind of dramatic structure I'm talking about.  Only this isn't funny, it's like being given bad news every ten minutes for two fucking hours.  Topped off by an extended trailer for An Inconvenient Truth that let me know my hometown is going to be a subaquatic curiosity in twenty years.  I feel great.

You should totally have gotten The Mummy 3 and Tin Man.

And a bottle of wine.

Zatoichi will be fun. I mean, it is fun. Every time I watch it.

Zatoichi's a lot of fun. I think Small will dig it.

Yeah I kind of hated Babel. It was two hours of watching people make very poor decisions. If I wanted that I would go to the casino. There's more tragedy.

I quickly hit a point where I became peevishly bored with the forthcoming inevitable. I can appreciate the idea behind the script, but for me it was the filmic equivalent of being stuck in a laundromat listening to a stranger bitch about their life while I count the seconds left in the tumble dry.

Despite it was a well-made film, I feel comfortable saying it sucked.
