One chapter. One crummy chapter needs inserting, and before I can write Word One I've had to research: the Victorian telephone system, electric switching systems, the history of telephone operators, the Strowger Automatic Telephone Company, 1920's London, the Unknown Warrior, November 11th 1920 in London, the Cenotaph, North London, Westminster, brewing techniques from 1920's England, the Debutante Season in 1920, at what point the stench from the London sewers ceased to become unbearable after August prior to 1920, when upper class families were at home and when they were away, and when they were away where they went.

Also, thanks to those people who put up their hand RE the assignation of phone numbers today. I will get back to you on that, as soon as I get out of 1920.

There's a lot to be said for writing stories set in modern times in places you know, or in fantasy worlds with a history and systems of your own arbitrary devising.
