I'm not sure I'll see a better show at this festival. The man's got a singing voice that fills a room, and he performed songs I never thought much of and made me appreciate them. Absolutely worth the twenty quid.

Among other things he performed 'Mein Herr' from Cabaret, 'Almost There', a great track called 'American' and a Costello/Sondheim medley of two songs entitled 'Losing My Mind.'

Closed with a song his dad wrote for a 96-year-old woman's birthday present. It's called Beautiful, and is littered with profanity. It was brilliant. It's also the last track on his CD, which is reason enough for me to buy it.

He's toured the show through Oz already, having played the Opera House. But if you get the chance, go see.

These are the lyrics to the song Cumming's dad (if I heard right) composed as a birthday present for a 96-year-old friend's birthday present. Cumming said he wished he'd been there to see the look on her face.

Imagine it being crooned in a Scottish accent, with all the lusty bits being throatily slammed out, to a delighted 96-year-old woman.

There's an option to listen to it at the linked page as well.

Off to see NewsReveue and then Reginald D. Hunter in about 2 hours. Meeting up with [livejournal.com profile] coffee_lifeform at the former to sort out hanging-out plans.

Cash has run out. Running on credit. If I can't have it with credit, I can't have it. Will attempt to trade credit for cash by purchasing things for [livejournal.com profile] sevare at some point. For today it means doing only that which is within my sorely constricted means, which means free stuff, wandering, photographing and thinking about how much this new mindset is probably similiar to growing old. Can't do as much as you used to, be okay with slowing down, you've done you're bit, it's cool, enjoy what you have, nothing to prove, live in the moment, process all that's happened but keep on moving as best you can. Or something like that.

Useful fact: vegetarian haggis tastes the same as actual haggis.

Also, we have two haggis pizzas in the fridge.
