Alan Cumming - I Bought A Blue Car Today
Aug. 16th, 2010 02:32 amI'm not sure I'll see a better show at this festival. The man's got a singing voice that fills a room, and he performed songs I never thought much of and made me appreciate them. Absolutely worth the twenty quid.
Among other things he performed 'Mein Herr' from Cabaret, 'Almost There', a great track called 'American' and a Costello/Sondheim medley of two songs entitled 'Losing My Mind.'
Closed with a song his dad wrote for a 96-year-old woman's birthday present. It's called Beautiful, and is littered with profanity. It was brilliant. It's also the last track on his CD, which is reason enough for me to buy it.
He's toured the show through Oz already, having played the Opera House. But if you get the chance, go see.

Date: 2010-08-16 12:10 pm (UTC)I did get to write to Alan Cumming once (for work reasons, in a previous job) but the address we had for him, a poste restante in New York, came back undeliverable. Shame.

Not usually a fan of musicals, but "Cabaret" had teeth.

Got the album. Like it a lot.
