Fillion on soap opera close ups
Mar. 20th, 2011 05:48 pmNathan Fillion got his start in soaps. One Life to Live, specifically. There's this convention in soap of the long slow close up, with the camera zooming or dollying in after one character dumps something heavy on another. It takes forever, this kind of close-up, and it can be excruciating trying to act through. A guy named Michael Knight clued Fillion in on handling it. He said that kind of close up is acted through in three stages: "Did I leave the oven on?" --> "I left the oven on!" --> "I didn't leave the oven on."
Every single time.
Or alternatively: "Did I leave the cat out?" --> "I left the cat out!" --> "I don't have a cat."

Date: 2011-03-20 11:22 am (UTC)Watch B&B tomorrow, and there are basically three actors' methods:
1. The Fillion Method (They made have a career).
2. The Twilight Method (Act like a stunned mullet for all you are worth)
3. The Ron Moss Method (You're doomed, your career is going nowhere. Ride with it or roll with it).
It does not work with non-US soaps or Telenovellas.
