Lots of fireworks this trip
Aug. 15th, 2010 09:55 pmGot back to
sevare's after wandering around last night, through streets sometimes through or beneath other streets (seeing some bad free comedy, were struck up by an ageing goth named VB-for-Vicious-Bitch, eating Japanese and sampling beer and scotch) and looked out the kitchen window to watch the fireworks going off over Edinburgh Castle. Sev's on the third floor, which gives a great view of the castle past the roofs of other houses and buildings. Pretty special.
Spent the day wandering about. Went to a food faire at the foot of Arthur's Seat. Went and saw Adam Hills do a partly improvised set at an incredible cathedral venue. Sitting in a pub right now, listening to a guy play guitar badly.
Great seeing
sevare and Bejii. They've got a friend visiting as well, Nattie, who it turns out lived down the road from me in Carlton and worked at the vet around the corner. Small world. That's the third time that's happened now.
The place Jenny's friend arranged for us is pretty great. Don't know how much of them I'll see given our timetables being so different, but they seem like a nice enough crowd.
Tried haggis. Savoury, peppery, softly granular. Not bad, provided you don't think too much about lungs.
Seeing Alan Cumming at midnight at the same venue. Should be good. Stroll back, get some sleep, do it all again tomorrow.
Not entirely sure what the future holds, really. The idea of seeing people back home again feels really good. The idea of possibly shifting to London a little daunting. The idea of starting something entirely fresh really appealing. Right now everything's possible and nothing's definite.
I'm gonna bum out when I get back. That's kinda inevitable. Best keep busy.

Date: 2010-08-16 03:49 am (UTC)Offal is good because it's made out of organs, and what better thing to repair your organs with than more organs??
(Is in a mood because I've lost some of my novel notes, and they're the ones that you need to actually have the novel.)

Date: 2010-08-16 03:59 am (UTC)I stayed in student digs in Cowgate and had a spectacular view over rooftops. Making toast and looking out of the window bought tears to my eyes.
As I was wandering up the back of the castle on a sunny day, a music student scraped out "the celt" on her fiddle and I felt like I'd come home.
Are you going to have a deep fried Mars Bar?
