Been faffing about for years trying to settle on a tattoo design that I could live with. In the last two days two leapt straight to mind that I'll probably be running with. One will probably be a straight-up literary tattoo of this Dorothy Parker poem:
and the other will incorporate a saying that has become a mantra over the last few years: Stasis Is Death.
Spent the morning having a slow breakfast, getting grants in order and realising the scale of what's involved with Finland. What little do I keep? How do I sell the rest? Is subletting the room an option? What about storage? When do I go? When do I come back? Will I come back? What if I get the Library Fellowship (which requires me to be here for 3-12 months)? Will there be a job waiting in Helsinki? If I come back here will I be homeless in a crap market? Will I be broke? Will I be loaded? It's pretty exciting.
And sweet's the air with curly smoke...
My land is bare of chattering folk;
the clouds are low along the ridges,
and sweet's the air with curly smoke
from all my burning bridges.
