One of the biggest things I wrestle with when it comes to setting fictional events amidst historical ones - especially historical events in which people suffered and died - is not trivialising those events, or being seen to exploit those times to my own ends. Lebanon took ten times longer than it should have because of that, and in the end I had to remove months of work regardless. It's happening again, to a smaller extent, which suggests I'm learning - but I wish I learned quicker. I'm going broke through a lack of uptake.
